Tory MPP Lisa MacLeod says the Liberals put up a “$3.5-million stonewall” that prevents voters from seeing deleted e-mails.
MacLeod also released a scathing letter from Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian that slams the Liberals for not co-operating with her search for the missing documents. Deleting the emails and then ignoring the investigation to recover them? Only top government employees could ignore billions of dollars lost. The Liberals seem to have no remorse for the corruption. When can we throw these fools in jail?
“As an officer of the Legislature, I would expect the highest degree of cooperation and diligence,” Cavoukian says in a letter dated July 23 to deputy minister Kevin Costante.
“After my office specifically asked how one would recover Mr. MacLennan’s ‘deleted emails’ from his email account, how is it possible that there would be no examinaion of his decommissioned email account?” she said.
Craig MacLennan was a senior staffer in the office of former Energy Minister Chris Bentley.
“There is no valid reason why the CSB (Corporate Security Brance) search team was not asked to verify that all relevant email accounts had indeed been decommissioned,” Cavoukian said.
MacLeod told reporters Thursday the Liberals are stonewalling by charging an estimated $3.5 million to recover the deleted e-mails on the cancellation of two power plants in Oakvlle and Mississauga.
“What continues to concern us even more is the fact that Kathleen Wynne, who promised us openness, has promised us transparency and has promised us accountability is now putting a $3.5-million gun at our head in order to get the information she could have given us if she had not deleted her e-mails in the first place,” MacLeod told reporters.
“This could have cost taxpayers nothing. We could have actually found out the truth had she actually wanted to give it to us,” she said.
The Mississauga gas-fired power plant was scrapped days before the 2011 when several Liberal seats in the southwestern GTA appeared in peril because of the Liberal government’s decision to site those plants in a heavily populated residential area of Mississauga.
It’s estimated the cost to scrap both the Mississauga plant and the Oakville plant could reach $600 million.
Kathleen Wynne is a bum. We need to start calling the corrupt, CORRUPT.
